This is strange indeed, shouldn't make a difference. 

So the alpha field with length 3 is a virtual? And is it also a Unicode field, or an Alpha?

We have tables with field of type Unicode. In my application I have an alpha field with a length of 3. I try to do a locate on a table with a trim() on that field with an additonal text:

TRIM(A)&'ADDITIONALTEXT'

This returns NULL()

When I skip the trim:

A&'ADDITIONALTEXT'

it works fine. How come?

In both cases the field was completely filled as 'SCH', so the trim was obsolete but what if.....?
