We are experienced in running our application in other European languages in a pretty simplistic way. Just mls_bld the file text file, and let windows sort it out. Never needed Code Pages, MGConst, extra Fonts or special Collation files, users have never raised it as an issue.

Now we want a Demo in Chinese (Simplified), but cant get mls_bld.exe to provide the correct translation

English in Text File : “Primary”

Translated by user in Text file : “主要的” (Google translates this back as “Main”, so it is close)

After mls_bld.exe (and on screen in XPA) : “銝餉” (Google translates this back as “Dusk” so is wrong)

This is with Code page 950. We have tried all sorts of code pages but none of them are any better. Are there any secrets to getting a Chinese Language Translation ?

I tried that, and it works fine for me. You must be doing something wrong. Probably the source file for mls_build is not encoded with the character set you specify on command line.
Typically these "chinese looking text" containing nonsense when you translate it you also get if the file is Unicode (english text) in wrong byte order (big endian instead of Windows default little endian). Maybe thats the issue ?

I used your sample and used it for a German->Chinese .mls source file (mls_test.txt which I created with notepad and then saved as text file with encoding "UTF-8").
The mls_build command then is: %MagicPath%\mls_build.exe .\mls_test.txt .\mls_test.mls 65001
That file I added as "language" in magic. On top a label with German word "Haupt" (which gets automatcally translated), second a edit field with data expression = MlsTrans('Haupt').
In both cases the translation makes it finally to screen. Font is Arial on Windows 10. Thats however not relevant if your .mls file is already corrupted
