Failed to open file

Hi
Another strange thing since I reinstalled. When I start to something - application or program, I get an error “Failed to open MG6048.NEW” I’ve searched my cal and can’t find a reference to it so not sure what this is

UP1’9

TIA

John

John,

First, in addition to running Magic "As Administrator" you should have also installed Magic as an administrator for all users.

Further, if you installed Magic in the default location (C:\Program Files (x86)\MSE\...) then Magic will not have full access (read, write, delete, etc.) to the MAGIC.INI file. This is why you must run Magic "As Administrator."

The message you cite suggests that either you're not running as administrator or the MAGIC.INI file is flagged as Read Only, or some other security obstacle is blocking Magic from modifying it's MAGIC.INI file, forcing it to revert to a .NEW file, but the directory is locked down such that the executable is not allowed to create a new file.
